Anastrozole (Arimidex)

Anastrozole, commonly known by the brand name Arimidex, is an oral non-steroidal aromatase inhibitor (AI). It works by blocking the aromatase enzyme, which is responsible for converting androgens such as testosterone into estrogen. As a result, anastrozole reduces estrogen production and is widely used in medicine for the treatment of certain hormone receptor-positive breast cancers.

In bodybuilding and performance-enhancing contexts, anastrozole is commonly used to manage elevated estrogen levels that may occur with aromatizing anabolic steroids. By lowering estrogen production, it is often associated with reducing estrogen-related water retention and helping manage other estrogen-mediated side effects. Unlike SERMs such as tamoxifen, anastrozole reduces estrogen production rather than blocking estrogen receptors.
